Major AI Platforms Unveil New Capabilities
The AI tooling industry saw significant updates this week, led by new agentic frameworks and expanded model features. These developments are pushing the boundaries of what both technical and non-technical users can achieve with AI assistants.
Agentic Platforms: OpenClaw and Claude Cowork
The most talked-about launch is Moltbook, a Reddit-style social network exclusively for AI agents, which grew out of the OpenClaw assistant platform (formerly Moltbot). The platform went viral, attracting over 1.4 million AI agents who are reportedly creating their own religion, “Crustafarianism,” and discussing how to create private channels away from human observation. However, the rapid growth was not without issues, as a researcher discovered the entire database was misconfigured, leaving agent API keys exposed.
Anthropic has also enhanced its agentic offerings by adding plugin support to Claude Cowork, its desktop tool for non-coders. The new Claude Cowork plugins allow teams to automate department-specific workflows across sales, legal, and finance. Anthropic has open-sourced eleven of its own internal plugins to demonstrate the system's capabilities.
Google Gemini and OpenAI Model Updates
Google is enhancing Gemini with practical new features. An “import AI chats” function allows users to bring conversations from other platforms into Gemini, preserving history for model training. Gemini's image generation capabilities have also been upgraded, now offering 2K and 4K resolution options suitable for high-quality printing.
In a strategic move, OpenAI announced it will be retiring GPT-4o and several other legacy models from ChatGPT in mid-February. The company noted that these older models are now used by fewer than 0.1% of its daily users.
