OpenClaw Founder Joins OpenAI to Lead Agent Development
In a significant move for the open-source community, Peter Steinberger, the creator of the viral AI agent OpenClaw (formerly ClawdBot), has announced he is joining OpenAI. Steinberger will lead the development of the next generation of personal agents. Despite courtship from Meta's Mark Zuckerberg and various VCs, Steinberger chose OpenAI to access unreleased research and compute resources.
OpenClaw will move to an independent foundation and remain open source, with OpenAI sponsoring the project to ensure it flourishes.
The tool, which gained over 175,000 GitHub stars, allows for autonomous task execution, such as managing emails or coding. A smaller, more stable version called TinyClaw has also been released by researchers.
GPT-5.2's Contribution to Theoretical Physics
OpenAI has published a preprint detailing how a specialized research version of GPT-5.2 independently discovered a mathematical formula and formally proved it correct in just 12 hours. The model identified an error in a widely accepted particle physics answer and proposed the correct solution, verified by physicists from top universities.
ByteDance Challenges Frontiers with Seed 2.0
ByteDance is aggressively entering the model race with Seed 2.0. These models reportedly match or beat GPT-5.2 and Gemini 3 Pro on reasoning and vision benchmarks while costing significantly less (approx. $0.47/M input tokens). The release includes "Expert Mode" availability on the Doubao app. Simultaneously, their Seedance 2.0 video generation model is facing scrutiny from Hollywood over copyright concerns.
xAI, Exa, and Other Tool Updates
xAI is evolving Grok into a full IDE with "Parallel Agents" (allowing up to eight coding agents to work simultaneously) and "Arena Mode" to compete for the best output. Meanwhile, Exa has launched "Exa Instant," a search engine delivering results in under 200ms, designed specifically to speed up AI agent workflows.
